Colfax Partners with Bright Computing to Provide Powerful, Manageable Sandy Bridge Clusters
Easy to use and manage Intel® Cluster Ready solutions facilitate HPC adoption for small and medium enterprises
San Jose, California
—
Bright Computing today announced a strategic partnership with Colfax International, a leading provider of workstations, servers, clusters, storage and personal supercomputing solutions. Under the terms of the agreement, Colfax International will include Bright Cluster Manager® on its new Intel® Xeon® E5 processor-based HPC clusters. This new “Sandy Bridge” processor technology delivers groundbreaking performance for HPC applications.
The new Colfax clusters are Intel Cluster Ready certified, meaning that a wide variety of important HPC applications are ready to run without modification or tuning. Bright Cluster Manager is Intel Cluster Ready-compliant, creating a total solution with Colfax that enables users to load and immediately use their applications, without concern for system configuration, provisioning or management issues.
"Our partnership with Bright Computing is a key step in expanding our HPC product offerings," said Gautam Shah, CEO of Colfax International. "This partnership provides our customers with powerful, compute-ready HPC systems. Colfax customers can get to work immediately, without the complexity and time-consuming task of setting up and testing their clusters."
Shah continued, “More importantly, Bright Cluster Manager’s intuitive user interface enables our customers to easily manage their clusters, without the need for Linux or HPC expertise. They don’t need to be part-time system administrators — they can focus on what they do best: delivering results.”
The importance of providing an intuitive, easy-to-use solution cannot be overstated. The shortage of skilled system administrators, and their high cost, has been cited by IDC and others as an impediment to extending the use of HPC into small and mid-size enterprises, or the “Missing Middle” of manufacturing in the US.
“Partnering with Colfax International was an easy decision for us,” said Dr Matthijs van Leeuwen, CEO of Bright Computing. “The strength of their product offerings, introduced so quickly after Intel brought out the new line of Xeon processors, demonstrates both the technical acumen of their product teams and their understanding of customer requirements. Colfax, with their clusters running the top manufacturing applications straight out of the box, is well positioned to serve the needs of the ‘Missing Middle’ and other markets."
Bright Computing’s close partnership with Intel in developing the Xeon E5-2600 processors was also a factor in Colfax International’s decision to partner with the company. Bright Computing’s developers had the unique privilege of working closely with the Intel “Sandy Bridge” development team to build HPC test clusters. As a result, Bright is tightly tuned to the processors, and is the only cluster management solution listed in the Intel Cluster Ready Reference Recipes.
