I'm looking forward to the UK HPC Summit more than I probably should. That's because I’m presenting on a subject that is very close to my heart. At Bright, our technology is so good, that we actually use it ourselves. Believe me; this is not common in the ISV space.
So, to bring readers quickly up to speed, we now have more than 400 customers globally, that have chosen Bright Cluster Manager to provision, monitor and manage their infrastructure. This is either in the HPC, OpenStack or Hadoop space….and the growing trend is for organisations to use Bright to manage at least two if not all three environments, from a single pane of glass.
It's an incredible solution. It's out-of-the-box. It deploys on bare metal and is up and running in minutes.
I am proud to say that we are one of our own customers. We have made the Bright choice along with industry giants such as aircraft and pharmaceutical companies, space agencies, and even a number of major IT equipment manufacturers.
So, how does Bright use Bright?
Our developers need clusters to test their code, and our support engineers need clusters to reproduce issues. In addition, there is a need within Bright to quickly spin up clusters with different versions of Bright, including custom builds, different base distributions (eg RedHat, CentOS, SUSE, etc.), and different types of configurations. With a limited amount of hardware available, manual set up would be tedious and time consuming.
So we built our own private cloud which runs Bright to manage all of the hardware, operating systems and development environments. We use Bright to deploy and configure OpenStack. And, we have created a set of end user tools to spin up virtual clusters in an instant. Each user (each and every Bright developer and support staff) has their own isolated environment with full control over their virtual clusters… and these virtual clusters are directly accessible from our office network. Load is balanced automatically and capacity can be expanded easily with cloud bursting.
It couldn't be simpler! And it's all thanks to our very cool technology. In a nutshell, Bright provides a tried and tested method of cluster management. Hundreds of clusters world-wide are being managed using Bright Cluster Manager.
We now offer a complete solution and a single graphical user interface for the setup, management and monitoring of OpenStack-based private clouds, Hadoop big data environments, and HPC clusters. And it's incredibly scalable – up to thousands of nodes.
If you aren't at the event and can't sit in on my presentation, please drop me a line so that we can discuss this in more detail.
