Time Benefits of Using a Cluster Manager vs DIY

By Lionel Gibbons | December 14, 2017

According to a recent
IDC survey, 77 percent of respondents agreed that lack of timely access to data is inhibiting their businesses. For system admins, ensuring that data and applications are available is key in the age of big data, deep learning, and Internet of Things (IoT). Perhaps the greatest resource for admins that must manage enterprise clusters is their time, and thus, the question becomes how best to save it.

Let’s look at some of the time benefits of using cluster management software over a do it yourself (DIY) management plan.

Even in the simplest environment, keeping track of all the activities involved in managing a cluster manually is not only complex but time-consuming. Enterprise clusters host multiple jobs and multiple tenants simultaneously, with mission critical applications competing for resources. Managing these clusters in a way that keeps them up and running efficiently is critical to business success.

Bright Cluster Manager Simplifies Management of Advanced HPC Cluster for Aircraft Design Institute

By Lionel Gibbons | November 03, 2015

Upgrading a cluster and installing new software can be a challenge, especially when you don’t have many resources at your disposal. The Institute of Aircraft Design in Stuttgart installed Bright Cluster Manager to greatly enhance the usability of its high performance computing (HPC) cluster.

The institute found that after upgrading to Bright Cluster Manager, upgrades that used to take us weeks to complete could now be done in a few days. What's more,  the graphical user interface (GUI) allows users to handle management and configuration tasks more efficiently and it is very easy to train people to manage the cluster.

Life after CES 2015: Big Data Stories You May Have Missed

By Bright Staff | February 05, 2015

By Bright Computing

It would be pretty cool to try on smart socks, text your refrigerator, and flick on a light bulb that acts as a security system. To actually do all that at one place in one day, you had to attend the recent Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

It’s hard to say what will become household staples like the VCR, camcorder, and DVD, which debuted at CES in 1970, 1981, and 1996, respectively. But the three new products listed below all have one thing in common: big data. Like so many other products at this year’s show, all three use sensors to collect data and connectivity to transmit it in real time. This use of IP connectivity, otherwise known as the Internet of Things (IoT), was so prominent that many visitors and media declared big data the biggest story of CES 2015.

So Much To See At ISC

By Lionel Gibbons | June 18, 2014

Well, it's that time of year again. Time for the International Supercomputing Conference (ISC), Europe's premiere event for people interested in just about anything related to high performance computing.

We're proud to be back again this year, sponsoring the 2014 event in Leipzig, Germany where we'll be showcasing some of the new capabilities in Bright Cluster Manager 7. Our CTO, Martijn de Vries will be giving a presentation in the Exhibitor Forum, and we'll be running live demos in our booth (#740).

We have so much to talk about this year. First up are the new HPC cluster management features available in version 7. But that's not all. We will also be demonstrating Bright Cluster Manager's new ability to manage Hadoop clusters and OpenStack clouds right alongside HPC clusters. Members of our develoment team will be on hand to show you how it works, and answer any questions you have.

So if your day job involves managing clusters of any kind, stop by and see us at ISC14. We'll show you how an enterprise-grade cluster manager can make your life so much easier.
