We continue to improve our software, adding capabilities designed to help you manage your Linux-based clusters and OpenStack-based private clouds more effectively. Our latest release - v7.3 - offers many exciting new features.

Bright Cluster Manager

We have released several improvements specific to version 7.3 of Bright Cluster Manager:

  • Enhanced AWS cloud support – The AWS integration has been revamped. It now supports EC2-VPC for both Cluster-on-Demand and Cluster-Extension. With EC2-VPC, instances run in a virtual private cloud (VPC) that's logically isolated to your AWS account.
  • Containers  – Users can now set up Docker from the CMGUI Kubernetes Wizard, or from the command line interface. We’ve also added integration to the Docker Registry, and support for Docker 1.11.
  • Linux and Hardware Integration – Secure LDAP (LDAP over SSL) is now the default. We’ve also added support for Intel Omnipath and SGI ICE X.
  • Support for Apache Cassandra and Alluxio*  – Bright Cluster Manager for Big Data now supports Apache's scalable, high-availability database, Cassandra, and memory-centric storage (Alluxio).
  • Improved Security features* in Kerberos and wire-encryption.
  • Automated Upgrades* for selected components including HDFS and YARN.
  • Other improvements – 7.3 includes a number of other improvements for ease of use, improved performance, and increased stability. Please contact your Bright Computing representative for more information.

 * Features marked with an asterisk are specific to Bright Cluster Manager for Big Data.

Bright OpenStack

We have released several improvements specific to version 7.3 of Bright OpenStack:

  • Supports Mitaka, the latest release of OpenStack
  • Enhancements to Ceph support. Bright OpenStack now supports the latest two versions of Ceph (Infernalis and Jewel). It also provides better feedback to users during setup (user friendly warnings) and generates more notification events for better monitoring.
  • Added support for Fernet, a secure messaging format explicitly designed for use in API tokens by Heroku.
